1st Division leaders stay out front

Future SC and George Town SC both won in the latest round of CIFA First Division matches to maintain their top spots in the table, while Cayman Brac FC continued their climb up the standings.

Playing under the lights at the Haig Bodden Playing Field in Bodden Town on 11 March, Future needed less than 120 seconds to take a lead they would never surrender against Savannah Tigers FC.

Mark Ebanks scored his 18th goal of the 2016-17 campaign in the second minute before Colby Seymour found the back of the net on either side of the half-time interval. Courtney Duval, Brandon Ebanks and Shaun Jackson also scored second half goals in the runaway 6-1 win. Noel Chisholm’s 43rd minute goal for Tigers briefly made it look as though the league-leaders would have a close game on their hands.  Instead, they picked up their ninth win of the season.

Meantime, two goals from Tex Whitelock led the way for George Town in a 4-0 win over Academy Sports Club. Junior Welcome and Ariel Tatum also scored for George Town, who kept within three points of Future at the top of the table.

Over in Cayman Brac, the hosts blanked North Side SC 3-0 to equal Alliance FC, who were inactive, with 20 points for third in the league.

In the early game at the Ed Bush Sports Complex, Andrew Alexander’s goal was the difference as Elite SC beat East End United 1-0.

There are two first division matches scheduled for Saturday, 19 March. Elite SC and Savannah Tigers face each other at Ed Bush starting at 5:45 p.m., followed by North Side SC and Academy SC at 8:00 p.m.
