Allen’s late strike seals it for Bodden Town
- Updated: 3 October 2016
A 90th minute strike from Anrdra Allen sealed the deal for Bodden Town FC as they edged Elite SC in their opening fixture of the 2016-17 Cayman Premier League campaign at the Ed Bush Sports Complex Sunday evening.
Allan, who came on as a substitute in the 75th minute, drilled the shot past Elite goalkeeper Danner Taylor. As the ball found the back of the net, the Bodden Town bench erupted with euphoria as that goal put them ahead 2-1 moments before the whistle.
“I feel wonderful,” Allen said after the game, his first for Bodden Town after a one-year stint with Roma United. “Just to be back…and on debut, I did it. It’s a wonderful feeling being back.”
Getting the ball near the edge of the box, Allen said there was no doubt in his mind what the outcome would be. “At first when my teammate went and headed off, I knew exactly what I was going to do in my mind. I just put it away [and] finished it,” he told CaymanSportsBuzz.com.
Bodden Town was aggressive early. Theron Wood had the first good chance but slid the shot across the face of the goal. Minutes later in the 15th, Wood was brought down in the box, drawing the penalty. Ricoh Brown stepped up to the spot and converted for the 1-0 advantage.
Elite SC did a good job of controlling possession for most of the first half but could not penetrate the Bodden Town defense, hardly causing keeper Ramon Sealy to break a sweat. The score remained 1-0 at the half.
As the second half got going, Elite played with purpose. This paid off in the 48th minute when Jermaine Wilson found Dwayne Wright, who made a skillful pass to Raul Rodriguez, who then beat Sealy with the equalizer.
Both teams looked for the go-ahead goal but failed to do so with both keepers making good saves. That changed moments before the final whistle courtesy of Allen’s strike, who came on when Wood left the game with an apparent knee injury.
In other week one results, Roma United beat Scholars International 1-0, Academy SC beat Sunset FC 2-0, and Cayman Athletic beat Latinos FC 1-0.
