Several promising track and field athletes tuned-up their performances at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on 17 February, ahead of the upcoming 2018 CUC Youth and CARIFTA Championships.
Among the highlights was Sherlock Brooks of 345 Athletic Club running the fastest 800m of the year on local soil with 1:57.76. Errol Smith of Mustang Track Club continued to show progression in the U15 Boys 100m with 11.87. That’s down from times of 12.33, 12.22 and 12.12 at earlier meets.
Tori-Ann Gonez (Women), Riana Rankin (13 Girls), Renia Smith (15 Girls), and Derrick Francis (U17 Boys) were all quick enough on the day to win both their 100m and 200m events.

Aijah Lewis and Kashief Dawkins, who are both attending school in Jamaica, returned to intensify their training as they seek to secure spots on the team that will represent the Cayman Islands at the CARIFTA Games in the Bahamas over the Easter Weekend.
The young track stars will be back at Truman Bodden Sports Complex for the CUC Youth and CARIFTA Championships this Friday and Saturday (23-24 February). Friday’s action starts at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 3:00 p.m. After that, they’ll have an additional chance to make CARIFTA standards at the Inter-Secondary Championships on 1-2 March.
