Beach volleyballers open serve at CAC Games

Cayman Islands beach volleyball teams opened their participation at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games over the weekend and enter the battle for final standings on Monday, 30 July.
The men’s team of Nathan Dack and Casey Santamaria opened with a win over the United States Virgin Islands in straight sets (21-13, 21-12) on Saturday.
Returning to action a day later, the going was tougher, as they failed to win a set against either Mexico or Curacao.
They fell 21-13, 21-9 against Mexico and then 21-17, 21-14 versus Curacao.
The ladies team of Marissa Harrison and Ileann Powery had a tough battle in their opener on Saturday against the Dominican Republic. After splitting the first two sets, they were edged 15-13 in the decider.
On Sunday, the pair were defeated by Colombia 21-11, 21-13.
Playoffs for final positions begins Monday with both the men and women having a chance to finish as high as 13th in a field of 22 teams.
