Blazers open title defence with emphatic win
- Updated: 28 February 2018
Sol Blazers opened their defence of the Cayman Islands National Men’s Basketball League with an emphatic 96-51 over Western Union on 25 February.
Shaad O’Garro showed no off-season rust to lead his side with 25 points, including seven three-pointers. He also grabbed seven rebounds to go along with four assists, four steals and two blocks.
“It feels good. It is good to have everybody back healthy and ready to compete,” O’Garro said afterward. “We are a bit tired because everybody is getting their legs back but we’re feeling good.”
Solid support was provided by Joshua Dikua, who got a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, as well as dishing four assists and grabbing three steals. Max Serida also had a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Adam Milburn scored 10 points.
O’Garro said Sol Blazers are working hard toward their goal of winning their third straight title. “Right now, the goal is to compete as hard as we can, so when we reach to the playoffs it comes in like second nature. I think we can keep the intensity up,” he told CaymanSportsBuzz.com.
Eric McField led a short-handed Western Union with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. All five starters played the entire game due to the lack of reserves on the bench.
