Brown into semis at IAAF World U18 Championships
- Updated: 13 July 2017
Top Cayman Islands junior sprint hurdler Rasheem Brown has qualified for the semifinals of the 110m hurdles at the 2017 IAAF U18 World Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.
He ran his opening heat on Thursday, 13 July. Going under the starter’s gun in lane eight, Brown crossed the line fifth in 13.89 seconds. That was fastest enough to snag the last qualifying spot for the semifinals.
Brown, who runs locally for Trinity Track Club, was one of four Caribbean runners advancing in the event, including Jamaica’s Dejour Russell, who set a championship record of 13.08 seconds. Russell and Brown finished first and second in the U18 Boys 110m hurdles at the Flow CARIFTA Games in Curacao in April.
The semifinals are Friday afternoon in Nairobi – 8:40 a.m. in the Cayman Islands. CaymanSportsBuzz.com will have an update as soon as the race is completed.
Brown will also represent the Cayman Islands at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas next week.
