Bucs, Pigs open with wins
- Updated: 1 February 2018

Advance Fire Buccaneers and Queensgate Pigs Trotters opened their 2017/18 Alex Alexander Memorial Championship campaigns with round one wins at the South Sound rugby pitch on 27 January.
In the first of two competitive games on the afternoon, Buccaneers rallied to beat John Doak Iguanas 19-15.
The second match-up saw Queensgate Pigs Trotters defeating Fidelity Cayman Storm 21-18.
This sets up a showdown of undefeated teams when between Bucs and Pigs Trotters face each other on 3 February at 2:00 p.m.
The results also mean both teams who played in the Heineken Charity Shield a few weeks earlier left with the sour taste of defeat. Iguanas, who lifted the silverware on 6 January opened their Cup run with a loss and will need to rebound. Fidelity Cayman Storm will now be coming off two consecutive defeats and should be looking for sweet revenge when they face the Iguanas at 4:00 p.m. on 3 February.
