C.I. Women to play for bronze medal
- Updated: 29 June 2017

The Cayman Islands national women’s basketball team ran into a juggernaut of a side from Menorca in the semi-finals at the NatWest Island Games being played in Gotland, Sweden. They lost 121-61 and a third-place finish is the highest result they can now get.
Entering the game after back-to-back wins coming in impressive fashion, the ladies from Cayman had their work cut out for them against the team from the Spanish island.
The Menorcan ladies shot well and made light work of the zone Cayman was employing, taking a double-digit lead and never looking back.
There is no time to let the defeat linger on their minds, as they play in the bronze medal game on Friday against the loser of Gotland and Guernsey.
On Wednesday, Cayman beat Gibraltar in a high intensity game that could have been mistaken for a final. Both teams brought their ‘a-games’ with defensive pressure being a hallmark of the game that Cayman Islands won 93-79. Hannah Parchment top-scored with 24 points, Khailan O’Connor had 23 and Guiesha Smith had 21.
Earlier in the week, they dominated Jersey 79-14, after losing to hosts Gotland 89-56 on Monday.
