Cayman 6th at RAN 7s tournament
- Updated: 26 September 2018

The Borrelli Walsh Cayman Islands Rugby 7s team finished in 6th position at the 2018 Rugby American North tournament in Barbados over the weekend, with Trinidad and Tobago the only stumbling block on their way to a higher placement.
After opening their Group D play with convincing back-to-back wins over St Vincent and the Grenadines (17-0) and St Lucia (47-0) on 22 September at the Bellevue Plantation and Polo Grounds, the Cayman men then faced Trinidad and Tobago, who were too much on the day with a 40-0 triumph.
Finishing second in the group, Cayman advanced to the quarterfinals for a date with Mexico. However, the Mexicans secured a spot in the semi-finals with a 20-5 defeat of the guys from the 345.
It was then on to the Plate semi-finals, where Cayman edged the Dominican Republic 14-12 to set up a rematch with Trinidad and Tobago. There would be no reversal of fortunes, as the team from the land of calypso and soca blanked Cayman again (31-0) to take 5th place and push Cayman into 6th of 14 teams.
Jamaica defeated Guyana in the final to take the men’s title. Bermuda were third and Mexico finished 4th. Mexico won the women’s competition.
Representing the Cayman Islands were: Robbie Crib (capt), Justin Wight, Paul Westin, Shane Westin, Matthew Westin, Avery Ebanks, Kramer Bell, Mikey Wilson, Dave Stringer, Morgan Hayward, Darien Montague, and Ewan Wilson.
