CIFA season delayed
- Updated: 18 October 2018

The 2018/19 Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) season will not kick-off this weekend as planned.
A brief circular sent to members Wednesday evening (17 October) from CIFA General Secretary Marcos Tinoco stated in full:
Dear all,
Please be informed that due to many different reasons, the CIFA has decided to postpone the Men’s Premier League, the Women’s Premier League and the CIFA Awards Ceremony.
You will be informed of new dates in the coming days.
Clubs had been given until 12 October to register their teams for the senior competitions.
The regular season is still expected to be preceded by the Charity Shield this coming Sunday with defending CIFA Premier League champions Scholars International and FA Cup holders Academy Sports Club meeting in the men’s game. Scholars International, which won the Women’s League, were set to face Sunset FC, last year’s FA Cup champions.
There was no date given for a start of the leagues. However, this is considerably late for the Premier League, which usually starts in late September or early October. Last season, the women’s competition started in the New Year featuring four clubs.
Football is happening, however. Several clubs have engaged in pre-season friendlies and the national men’s team is in consistent training due to the ongoing CONCACAF Nations League.
CaymanSportsBuzz.com will have an update on the situation in a subsequent story.
