Clubs to battle for cups in Ash Wednesday showdown
- Updated: 5 March 2019
A pair of potential blockbusters will be contested at the Annex on Ash Wednesday (6 March) with the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Men’s and Women’s President’s Cups on the line.
Newcomers Roma United, a squad of players from Fusion FC, playing under the banner of the more established club will face Elite Sports Club in the women’s final at 5:00pm.
Roma upended Sunset FC 2-1 after coming from behind 10 February, while Elite SC defeated Scholars International 2-0 to advance to the final.
The men’s game will see Cayman Premier League title contenders Academy Sports Club face-off against Roma United, which sits fourth in the standings.
Academy has not lost a game all season and will be looking to redeem themselves after a 1-1 draw in league play against Future on 24 February saw them slip to third place in the league and one point off the top of the table with one game remaining.
Roma advanced after beating Elite, while Academy downed Scholars International in the semi-finals. Kick-off for the final is 7:00pm.
Admission is $5 to see both matches.
