CRS jumping season ends with new event
- Updated: 8 July 2018

The morning showers and overcast skies offered the perfect riding conditions as Cayman Riding School held its final jumping show of the season in late June.
With a record number of entries, 32 riders competed over jumps ranging from introductory cross poles at 0.5m to the more experienced riders competing over the bigger fences at 0.95m.
Cayman Riding School officials said with the welfare of the horses being paramount the show was held over two days, so horse and riders did not have to compete in the blazing sun.
“The highlight of the day was the introduction of a completely new type of equestrian event for Cayman known as ‘Arena Eventing’. Riders competing in this class had to negotiate a round of show jumps and then move straight on to a series of cross country jumps positioned both in the competition arena and out in the fields encompassing the property,” a CRS release stated.
Cross country jumping is a test of endurance, skill, and agility where horse and rider negotiate a course of natural – normally solid obstacles for example logs, ditches, water jumps and banks positioned in fields and open spaces (i.e. not in an enclosed riding arena).
The construction of a new cross-country course at Cayman Riding School means riders are now able to train and compete in this discipline for the first time ever in Cayman.
“It was absolutely exhilarating and so exciting” said Paula Daniels, who competed on her horse ‘Second Kiss’. “We are so lucky to have the new facilities and I just can’t wait to ride around the cross-country course again”.
The Arena Eventing was won by Jardae Barnes riding Austin, who produced a lovely double clear round.
