Ebanks continues his hot streak

There’s a heatwave that impacts football venues across the Cayman Islands, particularly on Saturday evenings, and we at CaymanSportsBuzz.com have found the source. It’s tough to find a player in any league hotter than Future Sports Club’s Mark Ebanks.

The national forward has come into his own after sitting out the start of the season with an injury but is certainly making his presence felt. In the latest round of the CIFA First Division on 4 March, Ebanks found the back of the net three time, scoring all of his team’s goals in a 3-1 win over East End United en route to his second straight hat-trick.

It might not have been as easy for a lesser player. The 26-year-old missed an early penalty but erased that mistake in the 20th minute, saying the finish came down to the hustle he put in to get himself in position to capitalise on a second opportunity.

In the 38th, he was back at it, terrorizing the East End defence. “We caught them on the break again and I got a chance to score the second goal. The third one, it was a rebound. The keeper fumbled and I collected it and scored my hat-trick,” Ebanks explained.

Ebanks’ exploits on the pitch have earned him the honour of being named Cayman Sports Buzz Footballer of the Week presented by Futbolista World.

He’s scored seven goals in his last three outings and tops the CIFA First Division with 17 goals in the eight games he’s laced up his boots for and is hungry for more. “I have a lot more training to do but so far, it’s going good. The team is playing well and they’re supplying me with the balls to score the goals.”

Ebanks moved down from the Cayman Premier League, where he last played with Elite SC, to rejoin his original club.  “I’ve always held Future close to my heart. That’s where it all began for me,” he told CaymanSportsBuzz.com. “Right now, we’re in a rebuilding phase and helping the younger players develop.”

He’s also been doing his fair share to make them the top contender for automatic promotion through 13 weeks of the season.  “That was the plan when I first came back – to go back to the Premier League. Everybody is focused, training hard and we’re just ready for it.”

Ebanks enters the draw for a prize from Futbolista World.

Ebanks was presented with a certificate, a Futbolista World sports shirt, and a gift certificate to be used toward new gear at Futbolista World. He has also been entered into a draw to win an additional prize from Futbolista World at the end of the season.

Each week, Cayman Sports Buzz will select a player for the Footballer of the Week honour based on their performance in any of the following leagues: Cayman Premier League, CIFA Women’s Premier League, CIFA First Division, CIFA youth leagues and the CUC Primary Football League/Girls Primary Football League.

At the end of the season, Cayman Sports Buzz will be presenting a more substantial award to the Footballer of the Year.
