Elite Sports Club has climbed two spots into third place in the CIFA Premier League standings with a solitary round of matches left in the 2017/18 season.

Scholars International and Roma United are the only sides that have a shot at the title, leaving the others to play for pride and bragging rights.

Elite SC continued their late-season turnaround, trouncing Tigers FC 11-2 at Ed Bush Sports Complex on 24 March. Christopher Reeves pushed his league-leading goal tally to 21 after finding the back of the net nine times (Yes, you read that right).

Gonzalo McLaughlin Jr put Tigers ahead in the 4th minute before Sean Ebanks equalised two minutes later. It was then the Christopher Reeves show with four first half goals (15’, 16’, 37’, 38’). Raul Rodriguez joined in the scoring in the 39th minute. Reeves then picked back up where he left off with another five strikes past the keeper (52’, 58’(PK), 68’, 71’, 77’). Kank Bennett Lucas added another for Tigers in the 86th minute.

That was Elite’s eighth win in a dozen outings this season and are mathematically out of the title race but could steal second place if they upend West Bay rivals Scholars International on 8 April and Bodden Town beats Roma in a match with championship implications played at the same.

Scholars are the front-runners to win the title, topping the table with 31 points. Roma United must win and get help from Elite to stand any chance of winning the trophy. Elite, Latinos FC and Academy SC all have ambitions of taking the consolation of a third-place finish.

In other action from last weekend, Sunset Football Club came from behind with three second half goals to defeat Cayman Athletic at the Annex on 25 March. Brian Martin’s first half brace (23’, 38’) gave Athletic a comfortable lead at the interval but a determined Sunset squad fought back. Thomas Chipchase scored in the 58th minute, followed by Thomas Elliot five minutes later with the game-tying goal. The winner came in the 70th minute courtesy Daniel Cargill to see Sunset hold firm in sixth-place with their seventh victory from 12 league games.

Earlier, Michael Johnson (49’) and Tevin Yen (62’) put balls into the back of the net to give Future a 2-0 win over East End, who slipped to the bottom of the table.

Cayman Brac FC picked up three points and swapped spots with East End after North Side forfeited their encounter scheduled for Saturday night in the Sister Island.

There is no play scheduled until after the weekend with the final round of games slated for 7-8 April.
