Elite, Scholars win as women’s season starts
- Updated: 5 February 2018

The 2017/18 Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Women’s Premier League kicked off over the weekend (3-4 February) with four teams in action.
Returning from last season are Elite Sports Club, which won the league, FA Cup and President’s Cup trophies in 2017; along with Sunset Football Club and Scholars International. Joining them are George Town Sports Club.
On Saturday at Ed Bush Sports Complex in West Bay, an 87th minute goal from Sabrina Suberan gave Scholars International a 1-0 win over last season’s runners-up, Sunset FC.
At the Annex Sunday night, Elite SC overpowered George Town SC 10-0 to pick up where they left off last year. GTSC would find themselves unfortunate to go down a player in the first half when defender Yanelys Ebanks was sent off after a reflex action saw he deflect the ball from the goal line with her hand.
Last season’s leading goal scorer, Tamoy Phillips scored a hat-trick for Elite. Shanice Monteith and Shanelle Frederick each scored a pair. Other goals came from Marlena Elwin, Briana Poy-Fong and Neesah Godet.
All four clubs are back in action this weekend. Sunset FC and George Town SC meet on Saturday (10 Feb.) at 7:00 p.m. Elite SC faces Scholars International at Ed Bush at 7:00 p.m. Sunday (11 Feb.). Both games are at Ed Bush Sports Complex.
