Running in lane 4 of four of five heats, the Cayman Islands national record holder in the event, trailed the field most of the way and clocked in 14.67 seconds on a wet track at the Olympic Stadium. Persistent rain had earlier interrupted the heats, which were postponed for several minutes.
His time was significantly slower than his lifetime best of 13.36 seconds set earlier in the season. Forbes had been rehabbing a leg injury heading into the Olympics after a setback in May.
The result ends Cayman’s participation in the Games, as Forbes was the last of the delegation to begin competition.
Also representing the Cayman Islands in Rio were: sprinter Kemar Hyman; swimmers Lara Butler and Geoffrey Butler; and sailor Florence Allan. Lara Butler set a national record in the women’s 100m backstroke with a time of 1 minute 4.98 seconds on 7 August.
