Four left standing in FA Cup
- Updated: 23 January 2018

There are four teams left standing as the field narrows in the 2017/18 CIFA Men’s FA Cup. Booking their spots in the semifinals are Academy SC, Cayman Brac FC, Elite SC and Sunset FC.
Cayman Brac FC was the first to advance from the quarterfinals with a 3-2 win over George Town SC at the Annex on 20 January. Andres Ruiz put George Town ahead in the 23rd minute before Tomas Dilbert pulled Cayman Brac level eight minutes before halftime. Ebo Eccleston saw Cayman Brac out front with his 55th minute goal and Ian Kirkwood doubled the lead in the 63rd. Tex Whitelock pulled George Town within a goal in the 68th but that was all the scoring that would transpire, as Cayman Brac held on.
This was Cayman Brac’s first competitive win this season, having started the Premier League campaign with an 0-5 start. Despite their standing in the league, the Sister Island side has all expectations of challenging for hardware in the cup.
On 21 January at Ed Bush Sports Complex, Academy fought hard to penetrate a stubborn Future SC defence to score two late goals. Yolande Plummer’s 78th minute finish took the wind out of the sails of Future SC before Mark Ebanks ended any chance of his former club making a comeback when he found the back of the net in the 90th minute.
Later at the same venue, Elite SC jumped ahead of Cayman Athletic in the 25th minute when Sean Ebanks scored. Elite never looked back, as Andrew Alexander doubled the lead six minutes before the interval. James Ebanks made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute.
At the Annex, Sunset FC signalled they are not to be overlooked when they bounced a second top side from the competition. With the game scoreless as full time neared, Paul Hennessy broke the deadlock with his winner in the 89th minute. Sunset dispatched the defending champions, Bodden Town FC in the first round.
The semi-finals are scheduled for the weekend of 4 February. The draw to determine the match-ups will be made live on Radio Cayman on Thursday, 25 January at 11:00 a.m.
