Injury limits Rutty’s CAC Games quest

The lone gymnast who represented the Cayman Islands at the CAC Games in Barranquilla, Colombia had her competition curtailed as a result of injury.

Raegan Rutty was scheduled to compete in four disciplines but was only able to complete her routine on the uneven bars before withdrawing from the others. In what’s been described by observers at the games as a strong performance, Rutty was awarded a score of 7.750 from the judges, although placing her down the field

The 16-year-old, who trains in Texas, said she was looking forward to the other events but agreed with her coach’s decision to have her withdraw.

“I received an injury a few days before arriving here, and I have qualified for other games such as the Pan American Championships in Puerto Rico later this year, so my coach said it would be a wise idea not to risk further injury by competing in all the events. So, I am saving myself for those games,” said Rutty.

This was the second international games in 2018 that Rutty has represented the Cayman Islands at. She competed at the XXI Commonwealth Games in Australia in April along with Sami Peene. Both described that as an amazing experience.
