International softball tournament this weekend
- Updated: 27 August 2018

The Cayman Islands Softball Association (CISA) plays host to the annual Nicaragua International Softball Tournament (NIST) at Field of Dreams from 31 August through 2 September.
Cayman has been participating in NIST since the mid 1980’s and the Cayman Islands hosted the tournament in 2009. CISA officials said they are delighted to be given the opportunity to host it again this year.
There will be both all-male and all-female teams playing. Cayman teams will be competing against international teams from the USA and Nicaragua. Teams from the USA participating in the tournament include New York, Washington, Florida and California. Participating Nicaragua teams include Bluefield, Corn Island and Puerto Cabezas.
This is the second time for the year that Cayman is hosting a tournament featuring overseas teams. In January, teams from Cuba and Jamaica joined the hosts for the Heroes Day Invitational.
Play begins in the NIST at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, with the opening ceremony being held the following morning at 10:00 a.m.
Organisers are encouraging spectators to come out and cheer on the teams. Admission is free.
