The developers of a billion-dollar community in Grand Cayman that will feature an 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course, have joined in those paying tribute to the sporting icon, who died on Sunday.

Palmer, considered one of the greatest golfers ever, passed away at age 87 due to complications from heart problems.

“The Ironwood team were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Arnold Palmer, yesterday 25th September, and we extend our thoughts and condolences to his family,” read an Ironwood statement issued Monday.

“He leaves behind a legacy of inspiration and achievement to all those involved in the world of golf. His daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Roy Saunders have been at the helm for some time now, and will continue this legacy, working together with Ironwood to create a golf course development here in Grand Cayman that he would have been proud of,” it added.

Ironwood is a proposed 600-acre, US$1.1 billion commercial, tourism and residential community in East End and North Side. The community will comprise a town centre with boutique shops, conveniences including a grocery store, a sports complex, an 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course and Practice Campus, a nine-hole Palmer Family Course, and two vacation resorts.

Ground breaking on the project is expected in November.
