Jamal Walton the record-breaker

Jamal Walton continues to blaze the track, setting two Cayman Islands national records at a recent meet in the United States.

Walton, who runs for Miramar High School in Florida, showed his good form at the HSAA Region 4A4 Championships when he broke Kemar Hyman’s seven-year-old Cayman Islands record in the 200m with 20.57 seconds, lowering it from 20.82 seconds.

In the 400m, he lowered his prior best of 45.99 seconds he ran two times this year. In the 27 April event, he ran 45.70 seconds.

Both times represent the second-best times by high school runners in the United States. Walton also ran a win-aided 10.42 seconds in the 100m.

Walton had a good showing for the Cayman Islands last month at the 46th Flow CARIFTA Games in Curacao, winning a gold and a silver medal. He topped the podium in the U20 Boys 200m with 21.29 seconds and was second in the U20 Boys 400m in 46.46 seconds.
