Keeping the game alive

As athletes, like the rest of us, grapple with the effects the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is having on day-to-day life around the world, some organisations are finding ways to keep the sporting stars of tomorrow engaged.
Among the programmes that has kept active is Total Soccer, which caters to developing the skills of young footballers in the Cayman Islands.
Assessments are done online, with coaches demonstrating drills via video and players doing their best to replicate them. Coaches and players then discuss their progress toward their developmental goals.
Cayman Sports Buzz editor Ben Meade spoke with coach Peter Reijn about what the experience has been like training his young players without having them gather on the pitch.
