The girls of Elite Sports Club won the U11 FA Cup in a game decided by penalty kicks against Savannah Tigers FC last Saturday, 29 April.
Tigers took the lead when Chloe Ebanks converted a penalty kick in the 24th minute after being taken down from behind.
Though Elite pressed and dominated possession for much of the game, they could not crack the code to tie the game. That was until Tigers were undone by an own goal late in the game.
With the scores level after regulation, two five-minute extra time periods beckoned. After that, the stalemate was still there, so it was up to the teams to send their best five kick takers to the spot. They each converted three of their first five kicks.

- Double trouble: Twins Paige and Madison Ebanks kept the ball moving forward.
Tigers looking to keep hope alive failed on their sixth try and almost held on when it was Elite’s turn. The Elite kick-taker knocked a solid shot to the goal that the keeper failed to get to cleanly before it crossed the goal-line, giving Elite the trophy.
“We feel pretty good, although I missed the first penalty,” said Paige Ebanks. “I just want to say good job to my team and all of the parents, thank you very much for coming out and supporting us.
Elite coach Tyanna Jan, who won a treble of trophies this season as a centre back for the senior women’s team, said it was a great game to cap the U11 girls season. Though it was a pretty even affair, she said her girls deserved the win.
“If I had to say which team played better throughout, I’d have to say Elite. We had a lot more possession on the ball, a lot more passing, we looked a little more organised – we just didn’t utilise some of the chances that would have put us ahead but I think it was a good game. I think both teams played well, came out to win and gave a good effort,” she told CaymanSportsBuzz.com.
The regular season champions in the CIFA U11 Girls League was Academy Sports Club.
Elite Sports Club won the CIFA Women’s League, the CIFA Women’s President’s Cup, and the Women’s FA Cup.
