New uniform sponsor for national football teams
- Updated: 9 August 2018

The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) has signed a new apparel sponsorship deal with Florida-based Skyros Sport.
“It’s an opportunity that we looked into and started negotiating around four or five months ago. We have an agreement where we purchase some uniforms and our senior men and women national teams would be dressed by the company free of charge,” said CIFA President Alfredo Whittaker.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Skyros was founded in Venezuela and has outfitted a number of clubs the South American country.
Whittaker said inking such an agreement was a step in the right direction. “At this time, it means a lot,” he told CaymanSportsBuzz.com. “It’s a big step since we have so many national teams that are getting ready to compete.”
The national girls team competing at the 2018 CONCACAF Girls U15 Championships in Florida were the first to receive the new kits. Other national teams slated for competition in the coming months are the U14 Boys in the CFU Challenge Series later this month and the national men’s team in the CONCACAF Nations League starting in September. U17 Boys and U20 Men have international tournaments in the months ahead as well, while U15 Boys and U20 Women are scheduled to have overseas competitions next year.
Whittaker said the deal extends beyond the national teams. “In the agreement, they will provide some special prices not only for our individuals who are registered with the national teams but also to the clubs, who would get the same rate,” he said.
“We’re looking to create that family atmosphere in Cayman. We’re looking to see an increase in the number of spectators. We’re looking at getting all of the football fraternity to be one and have not just the national teams but the clubs be able to benefit from these partnerships,” Whittaker added.
