No stopping Cayman Athletic U21s
- Updated: 26 June 2017

It was a season to remember for the young men of Cayman Athletic SC’s U21 team. After finishing their 2017 league undefeated, Athletic ended on a high by beating Academy Sports Club 2-1 at the Annex to win the CIFA U21 Men’s FA Cup on Sunday, 25 June.
After falling behind due to A. Oremule’s goal for Academy in the 25th, Athletic rallied and got an equaliser three minutes later from Joshewa Frederick, who will play with NCAA Div I Longwood University on scholarship starting this fall.
With the score level at the half, the winner came in the 69th minute from D’Andre Rowe to cap an exciting match.
Cayman Athletic beat Future SC 3-1 in the semi-finals last Wednesday to make it to the championship round, while Academy beat Elite SC 4-3 in the other semi-final on Friday. Elite earlier beat Savannah Tigers 5-1 to move forward to the semi-finals.
While the senior Athletic side finished bottom of the table in the Cayman Premier League and was relegated to the CIFA First Division for next season, the youngsters who experienced that setback still have a winning formula among their peers. The club’s technical director Ernie ‘Gillie’ Seymour has indicated a stronger focus on developing his younger talent next season.
CaymanSportsBuzz.com will have a more detailed story later.
