Prep Utd, Triple C play to entertaining draw

There was no separating Cayman Prep United and Triple C.

Triple C clawed their way back from a two-goal deficit to draw with Cayman Prep United in an entertaining affair during the latest round of the DART U14 Girls High School Football League on Wednesday, 11 October, 2017.

After a dominant opening win over their schoolmates from Cayman Prep City a week earlier, the girls of Prep United started purposefully playing at home, with Hannah Scott getting the score with a soft touch in front the goal.

Prep’s keeper Raeanne Stewart was there to deny Triple C an equaliser on the very next possession.

Although Prep United worked the ball around better for the greater part of the first half, Triple C refused to give in and forced Stewart to prove she was up for the job, as they created chances whenever they got the ball.

Kaylee Mellaneo’s hard work paid off when she doubled Prep United’s lead with about six minutes to go before the half-time whistle.

When play resumed, it was clear Triple C wanted to narrow the gap due to their refuse to quit spirit against what appeared to be a more methodical opponent. Liz-Anne Hiciano broke free towards goal and made it count. Triple C were now within a goal.

As with her counterpart on the other end of the pitch, Satiah Miller did a solid job between the pipes for the visitors.

Prep United, with an empty reserves bench, tried to maintain their lead and worked the ball around well with spacing but Hiciano would make something of a chance late and hit the back of the net with the equaliser.

Triple C celebrates the equaliser

The Triple C forward must have been certain of the go-ahead goal when she found herself on a breakaway with only Stewart to beat but the Prep keeper calmly collected the ball to thwart the attack. Not to be outdone, Miller’s kick save on the other end to deny Scott was maybe the save of the game, especially considering that had she been beaten, it would have most certainly meant defeat.

The game ended with a 2-2 draw.
