Previously unbeaten George Town loses 2nd straight
- Updated: 6 February 2017
It might be crisis time in the capital as George Town SC tasted defeat for the second consecutive outing in the CIFA First Division.
After steamrolling opponents for the first month of the season, it’s been a different reality for George Town since the calendar flipped to 2017. After a close contest against then second-placed North Side SC on 21 January, they lost a 2-0 stunner to East End United a week later.
This past Saturday, 4 February, it was Elite SC’s turn to give the freshly relegated side their second straight blanking. Brennan Ebanks (24’) and Shakur Silburn (35’) did the damage for Elite, which picked up their second win in six outings this season in the First Division.
George Town (five wins and two losses) remains in second place with 15 points, one behind Future SC, which leapfrogged them atop the standings a week earlier.
With George Town in a surprising slump, rookies Alliance FC edged within a point of them after a 2-1 win against Cayman Brac FC on the Sister Island Saturday night.
Meantime, Savannah Tigers FC put four goals past East End United to pick up their first win in seven matches this season and move off the bottom of the table, ahead of inactive Academy SC. Gonzalo McLaughlin Jr scored a brace with Jossue Miller and Noel Chisholm also scoring for Tigers. Keron Watler scored for East End.
