Captained by Jono Milne the Men’s Open team has been training together since January and have improved a lot since playing New York in a drop-off final at the Cayman International Touch Tournament back in April. They have also benefited greatly from the visit of US coaches for a weekend training camp in August.
The core of the team was involved in the Cayman Mixed Open team that won the US nationals last year although it has been a big step up in terms of adapting to the speed and fitness required for Men’s Open touch.
“Many of the players are relatively new to the game but we have some incredible natural athletes in the group. Our major challenge is to trust our natural game and start playing instinctively rather than pre-meditating plays,” Milne said.
CaymanSportsBuzz.com stopped by to as the women and over 40 men were scrimmaging ahead of the tournament and all appeared to be shaping up for a good run for Cayman at the tournament.
