Ruggers to battle for Charity Shield

The domestic rugby season kicks off this Saturday, 6 January with the Heineken Charity Shield.
The first game of the day at the day at the Cayman Rugby Club in South Sound is the Charity Spoon warm-up game featuring Advance Fire Buccaneers vs Queensgate Pigs Trotters at 1:00 p.m.
Then it’s time for the Heineken Charity Shield scheduled for 3:00 p.m. when Fidelity Cayman Storm look to repeat as winners when they face John Doak Iguanas.
A portion of sales of Heineken, Heineken Light, Amstel Light or Strongbow buckets brought at the games will be donated to the Heineken Charity Shield winner’s charity of choice. John Doak Iguanas RFC nominated Meals on Wheels as their charity and Fidelity Cayman Storm nominated The Crisis Centre and Feed Our Future as their charities of choice.
In the last shield game in November 2016, Cayman Storm beat Pigs Trotters 27-12. Iguanas comfortably beat Buccaneers 51-26 in the Charity Spoon contest.
Ahead of this weekend games, the Cayman Rugby Football Union holds its players draft Thursday evening.
The 2017/18 XVs season continues with the Alex Alexander Memorial Championship. The opening round is slated for 27 January.
