Sand Monsters control the beach

Sand Monsters were tops in Division A in week three of the Corona Sunday Beach Volleyball Summer Series, while Just Da Tip won Division B to regain a spot in the top level.

Here’s a recap from the Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation.

 Division A

Team Chaos and Can ya dig it started on the right foot as they both finished regular pool play undefeated. Regulation Sized Balls and Sand Monsters on the other hand just barely made it to the semis as it boiled down to point differential. It was a show down on court 1 as Team Chaos and Regulation Sized Balls were neck and neck throughout the entire match. It was a big upset when Regulation Sized Balls annihilated Team Chaos from the competition 23-21. Meanwhile on Court 2 Sand Monsters ruined Can Ya dig it’s perfect record when they beat them 21-10. The two underdogs from the semis moved onto the final to compete for the bucket of Corona. There were some incredible rallies and amazing digs, but in the end Sand Monsters emerged victorious with 21-19 lead over Regulation Sized Balls.

 

Division B

The B division had two new teams joining the ranks, as both Notorious DIG and Just Da Tip were demoted from the A Division last week. Right from the get go they showed that they were destined to stay in the intermediate as they both emerged from regular pool play with three victories under their belts. Unsurprisingly they moved onto the semis, where they were joined by Poppin’ Volleys and Veronica Vaughn’s Fine Ace. Just Da Tip didn’t waste any time eliminating Veronica Vaughn’s Fine Ace and their 21-9 victory secured their spot in the Finals. Notorious DIG had to earn their spot in the finals because Poppin’ Volleys were going down without a fight. Notorious DIG came out on top by a narrow margin of 21-19. The two top teams had a showdown in the finals because they were both desperate for a win in order to be promoted back to the A Division. Just Da Tip won by just a tad defeating Notorious DIG 22-20.

Division C

Motivated by the idea of being promoted back into the B Division, the two recent additions to the C Division, Sets for Life and Unprotected Sets, were quick to set themselves apart from the other teams. Both teams secured places in the semis with their flawless records. Group Sets and Is it in? wanted in on the action and secured spots in the semis. Sets for Life quickly annihilated the competition 21-16 against Is it in? Meanwhile Group Sets tarnished Unprotected Sets spotless record when they destroyed them 21-13. Focused on the prospect of returning to the B Division, Sets for Life quickly defeated Group Sets 21-10. Sets for Life can rest easy knowing they’ll be returning to their rightful division next Sunday.

Elite Doubles

The top male team this week was again Richard Campbell and Shaun Schaller who defeated Olney Thompson and Philipe Deslandes in the finals match 21-11. Casey Santamaria and Nathan Dack placed third by beating Roy Ebanks and Jesse Parham 21-17.

The top women’s team saw Heather Thompson and Stefania Gandolfi on top for the third week in a row as they defeated Chanté Smith-Johnson and Taylor Burrowes in their final official match of the day 21-19. JoAnna Poyssick and Sandy Mccombs placed third.
