Seymour’s brace keeps club on top

Cayman Islands U20 player Elijah Seymour scored two goals to lead Wingate & Finchley FC’s U23 team to a 3-0 win over Billericay Town’s U23 at maintain their position atop the table in the Bostic U23 Development North League in England on 11 October.

After a scoreless first half, Seymour gave Wingate & Finchley the lead in the 62nd minute when he followed up on Ben Pattie’s shot to tap the ball in from close range.

He doubled his tally in the 80th with a one-time finish into the corner of the net to give his side a 2-0 lead. Pattie scored just before the final whistle to give the Blues, who remain unbeaten this season, a 3-0 win.

Seymour’s brace came as he wore gloves to battle the cold London conditions. Both his play and his accessories were noticed by his manager, Dean Barker.

“Eli [has] done really well. He’s a Cayman Islands international. He scored two good goals today. I’m not sure about his gloves but he he’s done really well,” Barker said in an interview posted on the club’s social media.

The 18-year-old forward is in his first season with the North London club after playing for Barnet FC Academy and Cockfosters FC. Seymour has played locally for Academy Sports Club.

It was a particularly rewarding evening on the pitch, as Seymour’s father, Virgil, was on hand to see him find the back of the net twice.

Seymour represented the Cayman Islands as part of the U20 squad that played in the Caribbean Football Union World Cup Qualifiers in Haiti in July 2016.
