Showdown with championship implications looms

CIS 'Blue' and Cayman Prep 'United' meet in a top-of-the-table clash to end the season.

The 2017 DART U14 High School Girls’ Football League is poised for exciting climax, as the top two teams in the finals meet in the season finale, with either school still having a chance to win the inaugural title.

Cayman International School ‘Blue’ and Cayman Prep ‘United’ are separated by two points heading into the final game and both yet to taste defeat through six games. The ‘Blues’ top the table with 18 points from their six wins, while Prep ‘United’ are two points back, having drawn one of their games.

A win or draw will see CIS ‘Blue’ take the title, whereas Cayman Prep United can snatch the crown with a win when they meet at 3:45 p.m. at the Annex on Wednesday, 22 November.

CIS ‘Blue’ has the league’s most potent offence with 36 goals. Prep ‘United’ is second with 29 goals. They each have only surrendered seven goals this season.

In the latest round of games, CIS ‘Blue’ defeated Triple C 7-1, while Cayman Prep United beat CIS ‘White’ 6-0 with the respect rule being enforced. In other games, St Ignatius won 4-1 against John Gray High School and Clifton Hunter High School got by Cayman Prep ‘City’ with an identical score.

Meantime, Cayman Prep and High School have already wrapped up the title in the DART U13 Boys’ High School Football League. Prep has 16 points, four ahead of Triple C going into the final game, with St Ignatius third with 10 points.

This means the battle for the consolation prize of second place is still alive but St Ignatius have the daunting task of facing the unbeaten boys from Cayman Prep in their last league game when they host the leaders on Thursday, 23 November.

Looking back at the most recent games, John Gray High School 7s beat Clifton Hunter High School 5-0, while Cayman Prep downed John Gray High School 8s 6-0. Triple C edged Cayman International School 1-0 and St Ignatius beat Cayman Academy 3-1.
