The Cayman Islands Boxing Association has landed a local heavyweight a shake-up of its executive. Joining the leadership group is Deputy Opposition Leader and Newlands MLA Alva Suckoo.

Suckoo was one of five new faces added to the executive at the association’s annual general meeting on Saturday, 7 July. A long-time supporter of boxing on the island and former Councillor in the Sports Ministry, Suckoo will serve as a director for the sporting body.

Suckoo is a two-term Member of the Legislative Assembly.

Also joining the executive are 2nd Vice President Tristan Wesenhagan, Treasurer Andrew Woodcock, Assistant Treasurer Dion Brandon, and Assistant Secretary Nordra Walcott.

These new additions will serve on the body headed by President Leyla Jackson. Mike Laurenson continues as the 1st Vice President and Lauren Dakota Mark as the Secretary.

The changes came after the resignation of former executive members Charmane Dalhouse and Lee Murray.

This development comes as new national coach Stuart O’Connor arrived from the UK to start working with local boxers. He fills the void created by the departure of Ryan Barrett after the Commonwealth Games in April. CaymanSportsBuzz.com will have more with O’Connor in a separate story.
