Sunset girls blast past Academy in U13 FA Cup final
- Updated: 20 June 2018

Sunset Football Club overpowered Academy Sports Club in the final of the 2018 CIFA U13 Girls FA Cup for a 4-0 win at the Annex on 19 June.
With her side already sporting a two-goal lead, Ashlyn Evans netted a pair of goals on either side of the interval to seal the deal. Earlier finishes came courtesy of Emily Bodden and Kalie Ebanks.
Sunset coach Gisela Gamba said she was proud of the girls, who she said raised their performance in the most important match of their season. “Today was the best game they played because they had patience and we played our game. They were passing the ball around until the opportunity came. Scoring an early goal gave them more confidence to play their best,” she told CaymanSportsBuzz.com.
Player Evie Nicholson was excited to cap their campaign with a win because it was her last game before moving up to the U15 level. “Today was the most rewarding game because I got a win in my last game [in this age group].”
Her teammate Sophia Williams was also understandably happy to get the win. “We played well and had possession for most of the game and it was very rewarding to get the trophy,” she said.
After finishing second to Elite Sports Club in the league, Gamba said she was proud of the growth in her players over the course of the season. “It’s more about looking at the first game and the last game and see how they developed. It’s nice to win but at this age but it’s more about developing [their games]. So, I’m proud of the progression all the girls made through the season,” she said.
