Testori ends season on a high
- Updated: 28 August 2018

Michael Testori was first to the finish at the 34-mile road race, outsprinting a pair of other riders to win the final event of the 2018 Cayman Islands Cycling Association season on Sunday, 26 August.
Riders navigated their way from just east of the Frank Sound Junction, through North Side into the Cays Development and back toward East End along the Queen’s Highway and back to the start finish line.
The section running through the Cays Development featured more technical riding than normal, with several tight curves. It was there that Testori and two others separated themselves from the field by around a minute.
“I knew from the outset that once we got to the more technical part, those who are more familiar [with this type of course] would separate themselves from the field, and that’s exactly what happened. Mark [Higgins] went ahead and then I chased him and caught him. We exited the technical section, Steve [Abbott] caught us and then we worked together quite nicely up until about a mile from the finish,” Testori said.
“We played a bit of cat and mouse until the end and I was fortunate enough to take it straight to the end,” he said after outsprinting the others to the line to finish in one hour, 23 minutes and 48.086 seconds, with Abbott a second behind him and Higgins another second adrift.
A minute and a half later, Masters rider Brent Cunha (1:23:31.719) celebrated being the first in his class to complete the 34-mile course. Then it was Sunday morning rush hour along Seaview Road with seven riders storming to the line to finish within a five-second span. (See results below)
Testori, who described the high-point of his season as representing the Cayman Islands at the Commonwealth Games in Australia, described the outcome of the race as “a nice finish to the season”.
