Tight field in 3rd round of national qualifiers
- Updated: 15 February 2018

Golfers have completed three of six rounds of qualifying for selection to the team to represent the Cayman Islands as it hosts the 2018 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships this summer.
Top performers during the most recent round on 10 February at North Sound Golf Club were Payten Wight, Brian Ross and Aaron Jarvis, with the 10 best scores all within seven strokes of each other.
Wight, who has consistently been among the top performers, led the field with his best round of qualifying with a -1 (70), following earlier rounds of 74 and 77.
Ross was even par, one stroke back with 71, a dramatic turnaround from his 81 two weeks earlier at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Course and his 76 on 13 January.
Teenager Jarvis hit 72, two better than his opening round performance and noticeably better than the 82 he shot during round two.
Cameron Leitch was next on the leaderboard for the day with 74, down from 83 and 85 in round one and two, respectively.
Joel Dodson, Giles Hobday, and Michael Wight were tied for fifth with 75. Wight had the best score of qualifying with a 69 in the opening round on 13 January. He shot 78 on 28 January. Hobday had earlier rounds of 76 and 86. Dodson matched his opening round, as he rebounded from the 94 he shot in the second round at Ritz-Carlton.
The ladies field included five golfers, the most so far in this year’s qualifying.
Emily Ribbins shot 77 in her first outing, three strokes ahead of Isabel Mendes (80), who also played her first qualifying round. Nitti Howe, another golfer making her 2018 qualifying debut, shot 84.
Emma Woodhouse shot 90, eight better than her other round at North Sound Golf Club on 13 January. Lauren Needham shot 91 to follow her 110 on 28 January and 85 in round one.
