Walton lands All-American honour
- Updated: 14 December 2016

Cayman Islands 400-metre specialist, Jamal Walton, has been recognised for his strong performance on the track in 2016.
Track and Field News, which prides itself as “the Bible of the sport since 1948”, named the 18 year-old as a High School All-American in the one-lap event. Walton attends Miramar High School in Florida.
Walton, who represented the Cayman Islands at the CARIFTA Games in Grenada and the IAAF World Under-20 Championships this year, was not at his best in 2016 due to an early season injury but was good enough for the honour.
Among the highlights of his year was finishing second in the 200m at the AAU Nationals and also at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, plus the 4A state track meet. He also made the semi-finals of the 400m at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships.
His lifetime best times in the 200m and the 400m were set in 2015. He ran 21.43 seconds in the half-lap in Basseterre, then followed that up with 45.99 seconds in the one-lap event four months later in Cali.
