Warriors, Fearless are U16 hoops champs

The PwC-sponsored 2017 U16 basketball leagues came to a climax on 27 May with WV Fearless and Warriors being crowned girls’ and boys’ champions, respectively.
In the boys’ final, the Warriors beat the Head 58-49, led by outstanding play from Joshua O’Garro, who had a game-high 27 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds, dished four assists and nabbed three steals.
For his efforts, O’Garro was named Most Valuable Player. Joanki Espinar also had a solid night for Warriors with nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
In a losing effort, Jabari Walrond posted 18 points, six steals, five rebounds and three assists, while Lauren Brown scored 17 points and hauled in 10 boards.
The girls final saw two Women of Valor teams coming head-to-head. In the end, WV Fearless edged WV Courage 33-32.
Fearless’ Zaria Ebanks was named Most Valuable Player after posting 13 points, 12 rebounds and a steal. Also posting solid numbers for the champs was Shante Reid with 12 points, six rebounds, three assist and five steals. The rest of the team combined for eight points.
Latoya Brown led WV Courage with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks and Lyandrea Watson with nine points, seven rebounds and six assists.
