Wight, Hastings at LatAm championship

A pair of golfers, Payten Wight and Justin Hastings, are representing the Cayman Islands against more than 100 other players at the Latin America Amateur Championship in Santiago, Chile.
The tournament tees off Saturday, 20 January and runs until Tuesday, 23 January at the Prince of Wales Country Club.
This is Wight’s third time at the championships, which are being held for the fourth time. He was joined by his father, Michael, last year in Panama. Hastings, 14, is expected to be among the youngest players at the tournament.
The championship format consists of 72-holes, stroke play with a cut for the leading 50 players plus ties after 36 holes.
Hastings is grouped with Jonathan Newnham of Jamaica and St Lucia’s Richard Gibson Jr. for a 1:10 p.m. (11:10 a.m. in Cayman) tee-off on Saturday. Wight is scheduled to play with St Lucia’s Corey Devaux and Kevin Ferris of the USVI for 1:32 p.m. (11:32 a.m. in Cayman) start.
The LAAC champion wins an invitation to compete in the 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, as well as many other exemptions including The Amateur Championship, U.S. Amateur Championship.
