Winners repeat at junior golf championships

Andrew Jarvis, Holly McLean and Danny Lyne all repeated as winners at the 2017 Cayman Islands Junior Golf Championships at North Sound Golf Club over the weekend (30 September – 1 October).

In the girls 36-hole championship, McLean defended her title with a two-day total of 157. That was 13 strokes ahead of second-placed Lauren Needham, who was runner-up for the second straight year.

Jarvis, playing in his final junior championships, opened with an impressive -7 (64) on Saturday in the boys 36-hole championship. He returned with a steady 75 in the second round to preserve his lead and retain his title among boys who played off the blue tees.

Justin Hastings and Aaron Jarvis also played well to finish second and third, respectively – reversing their 2016 finish. Hasting shot 72 in the first round then impressed with a -3 (69) in the second round to finish two strokes behind the defending champion. Andrew’s younger brother, Aaron shot 75 and 72 for a weekend total of 147 and a third-place finish. over the weekend.

Another division for the younger players was contested over nine holes from the red tees. Out of a field of 10 players, Danny Lyne won with a score of 42 to defend his title. Sam Mclean came second with a score of 46.

A total of 20 players competed. During the trophy ceremony, the Cayman Islands Golf Association (CIGA) Junior Committee thanked JIKA AFRICA for their donated trophies and the CIGA for their sponsorship support, as well as all the North Sound Club staff and the volunteers, and congratulated all of the junior golfers on the standard of play over the two days.
