Defending champs pick up first win, Elite gets 2nd W

Defending Cayman Premier League champions, Scholars International, picked up their first win of the 2016-17 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Bodden Town FC Sunday night.

Rodrick Pearson gave Scholars the lead in the 28th minute and Dwight Dunk doubled it in the 60th.

Scholars, who lost to Roma United 1-0 on the opening weekend and then drew 2-2 with Sunset FC last week, got back to winning and will look for another against Cayman Athletic, when they return to Ed Bush Sports Complex on 23 October for a 4:45 p.m. kickoff.

It was the first loss of the season for Bodden Town FC, who opened with wins over Elite SC and Cayman Athletic. They will play Sunset FC on 23 October at 7:00 p.m. at the Annex.

In other Cayman Premier League action, Elite SC registered a convincing 3-0 victory over Cayman Athletic at the Annex. After a scoreless first half, Miguel Simms opened his account for his new team in the 47th minute. He played in the First Division with George Town last season.

Raul Rodriguez extended the lead in the 70th minute with his third goal for the season. He has scored in all three games for Elite. The energetic Jermaine Wilson made it 3-0 in the 90th minute.

Elite SC picked up their second consecutive win after losing the opener 2-1 to Bodden Town FC. This was Cayman Athletics second loss in as many weeks after winning their first against Latinos FC.

It’s back to the pitch on 23 October for both sides. Cayman Athletic have a date with Scholars (as mentioned above) and Elite clashes with Roma United at 7:00 p.m. at Ed Bush Sports Complex.
