Gymnasts bring home the gold

Motions Unlimited’s men’s gymnastics team may have missed Pirates Week, but they sure brought back a lot of gold to the Cayman Islands from the Atalanta Judges Cup Men’s gymnastics meet on 17 November.

It was a very successful competition for the Cayman boys as they set high benchmarks for themselves at the first meet of the season. Level 8 Igor Magalhaes, Level 7, Karthik Adapa, Level 6 Kaleb Woolaver, and Level 4 Alex Hare executed clean routines across all six apparatus demonstrating that they can be competitive with some of the best young gymnasts in the U.S.

Highlights were Magalhaes cleaning house taking gold on six out of six events and was a crowd favorite. Adapa, who has been fighting some injuries, still managed to take third all around in his age division. Hare nailed his routines which earned him first place all around and Kaleb Woolaver also took home the gold for first place all around.

“It was a great meet to start kick off the 2018-2019 the season. It shows that hard work pays off,” said Coach Mikey Malin.

The boys and girls teams are up next on 8 December for the Holiday Festival at Motions Unlimited on Sparky’s Drive.

The girls’ team will compete in the Metroplex Challenge 25-27 January in Fort Worth, Texas, as well as the Florida Crown Championships in Boca Raton, Florida 26-28 April.

The boys’ team schedule includes the Judges Cup in Atlanta, Georgia and the Valeri Luikin Invitational 9-10 February in Plano, Texas.

Both boys and girls competitive teams will participate in the Gasparilla Classic in St. Petersburg, Florida from 22-24 February and the Bermuda International Challenge in Bermuda 15-17 March.
