Cayman Islands national basketballer Samuel O’Garro is in celebratory mood after winning his league championship with his German club.

The 6’4” guard scored 12 point and hauled in 10 rebounds for TSV Neustadt temps Shooters in a blowout 35-point win over SC Weende Göttingen in the 2.Regionalliga North-West title game on Sunday, 9 April.

Looking back on the season, O’Garro described it as a tough journey. Part of the challenge was the injection into squad of players with similar skills as the Caymanian.

“We had to adjust to each other. It was like the Golden State Warriors incorporating Kevin Durant and now they have to start over, although they’re doing good. It was like that for us at the beginning but we got it together and we started to win games,” O’Garro said in a telephone interview with CaymanSportsBuzz.com.

He returns home later this month and will likely suit up for SOL Blazers as they look to defend their local title, which he helped them win in 2016. After that, it’s off to Gotland with the national team for the Island Games.

As for his professional plans, O’Garro said: “I would like to go somewhere else for the experience, to experience a different place and different playing styles but I don’t mind Germany, so I don’t have a problem coming back.”

In the meantime, he’ll watch the NBA playoffs to see if the Golden State Warriors will gel the way Shooters did and win the title.
