U18 boys get ready for rugby tour

As the Cayman Islands National U18 Girls team return from their successful tour to the Las Vegas Invitational 7s, the Tradeview Markets Cayman Islands National U18 Boys team is well underway in their preparations for their first tour of the year.

The boys will be heading off to Orlando later this month to compete in the Tropical Rugby International Youth 7s Tournament. The tournament also boasts teams from USA, Canada, Mexico, and Zimbabwe.

Tradeview Markets National U18 Boys Rugby 7s team will look to place their mark in their first year competing at the Tropical 7s. Last year, many of these boys were involved in the UK Tour, sponsored by Tradeview Markets, in which they played three well-established club sides in Northern England, as well as attending multiple rugby clinics hosted by some of the UK’s top youth coaches.

“This year with the focus for this group being on the 7-a- side version of the game, The Tropical 7s is the perfect fit for these boys. They will be able to put their hand up as real contenders in the region as they prepare themselves for future tournaments where they will have the chance to Represent Cayman in Sanctioned International Matches,” stated a release from Cayman Rugby Football Union.

“With Tradeview Markets sponsorship of this team we are able to provide the boys with top-level competition which would be hard to replicate on island. It is always good for them to step up to the next level as this requires them to adapt quickly to teams they are unfamiliar with playing,” it added.

Rugby officials say will be looking to build on this tour, by taking a select few to Fiji for a two-week training camp this summer. There, the boys will be coached by and play with some of the top rugby 7s talent in the world.
