Cayman names six athletes for Pan Am Games

2011 200m freestyle gold medallist Brett Fraser and national athletics 100m record-holder Kemar Hyman headline the Cayman Islands team for the XVIII Pan American Games being held in Lima, Peru this summer.
Completing the team for the 26 July to 11 August Games are gymnast Raegan Rutty, sailor Jesse Jackson, and swimmers Lauren Hew and John Bodden.
Hyman, who has a season’s best of 10.02 sec, will compete only in the 100m. Fraser will swim the 50m and 100m freestyle events, along with the 100m butterfly. He holds the Cayman Islands long course national records in the 50m free (24.41) and 100m butterfly (52.96), as well as several others.
Hew will swim in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle events. She holds the national long course records in 50m freestyle (26.59) and 200m freestyle (2:05.98), along with others.
Distance specialist Bodden will compete in the 200m butterfly, 400m freestyle and 1,500m freestyle events.
Rutty will compete in the floor, vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and individual all-around gymnastics events.
Jackson will set sail in the laser standard competition.

The Cayman Islands first competed at the Pan American Games held in San Juan, Puerto Rico 1979.
Since that time, Cayman has sent athletes to every edition for a total of 10 Games to date. The Cayman Islands has won a total of six medals – one gold, four silver and one bronze within the last eight years.
Joining the athletes in the South American country will be Chef de Mission Eilidh Bridgeman and Press Attaché Jade Webster, along with the following coaches and managers: Kenrick Williams (athletics coach), Bailey Weathers (swimming coach), Susan Weathers (swimming manager), Angel Rutty (gymnastics manager), Edward Umphrey (gymnastics coach), and Raphael Harvey (sailing coach).
Andrel Harris and Pippa Davies will work with the games as Pan Am Journalists.
