Cayman Islands gymnasts picked up top 20 finishes at the Junior Commonwealth Championships in Namibia this week with lifetime best performances.
According to results posted on the Cayman Islands Gymnastics Association’s Facebook page, Sami Peene finished 14th and Raegan Rutty 16th in the individual all-around competition held Tuesday and Wednesday.

Peene set a new junior national record on the floor and bars and in the all around event. In the process, she qualified for the finals for the floor routine and finished 8th overall. Rutty set a new national mark on the vault with a score of 12.65.
This was the second major meet for the girls within the past month, having competed at the Junior Pan Am Championships in Bolivia three weeks ago. The next major challenge for them will be the Islands Games next summer.
