Update: The incorrect match-ups were previously circulated by CIFA. Upon the release of the Cayman Sports Buzz article on 18 February, the error was spotted and a revised match-up circulated by the association.
The semi-finals of the 2018/19 Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Men’s President’s Cup will be contested this Wednesday, 20 February, with Roma United, Academy Sports Club, Elite Sports Club and Scholars International all hoping to advance for a chance to win the hardware.
The first semi-final will see Roma United taking on Elite Sports Club at 7:00pm at the Annex.
Roma edged Latinos 1-0 thanks to a Dexter Sharpe 83rd minute goal on 12 February. National player Christopher Reeves put two in the net in the to lead Elite past Sunset FC in the quarterfinals (2-0).
It was an easier path for the other semi-finalists. A Rolly Bodden hat-trick accounted for half the goals as Scholars blanked Cayman Athletic 6-0. Meantime Academy Sports Club beat Alliance SC 6-1 despite going a goal down to the cellar dwellers of the Cayman Premier League.
Scholars and Academy meet at Ed Bush Sports Complex for a 7:00pm kick-off.
The Men’s President’s Cup finals will be played on Ash Wednesday, 6 March, 7:00pm at the Annex. This will follow the women’s decider between Roma United and Elite Sports Club in the public holiday showcase.
