Co-Ed flag football reaches midseason

Players of the Week: Nicholas Roberts and Jordyn Taylor.

Uncle Clems Packers and Popeye’s lead the way at the half-way point of the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association’s 2017 Co-Ed League, with players sharpening their skills for the upcoming premier league season.

In the latest round of games on 31 March, 12 teams turned out at the Ed Bush Sports Complex.

The first games of night were Kirk Freeport vs NCB and Maples vs Go Flag Yourself.  Kirk Freeport and NCB was a very close game ended in a score of 14-7 in favor of NCB. Players like Jordyn Taylor and Brett Eden were stand out players for NCB.

In the beginning, it was a close game for Maples vs Go Flag Yourself. However, interceptions thrown was the downfall for Go Flag Yourself. Players like Jessica Jackson and Christopher Lebeau from Maples made pivotal plays to push Maples in the lead. The game ended with a score of 27-7 in favor of Maples.

The second games of the night were Dart vs Popeye’s and CNB vs Burger Shack. Currently ranking first in the East Division Popeyes showed why they are in the lead with players like Alicia Dixon and Nicholas Roberts making big plays. The game ended in favor of Popeye’s with a score of 33-13.

Burger Shack continues to make their stamp as the undefeated team for many years. It was no shock when they beat CNB 20-12. However, CNB did not make it an easy win for Burger Shack.

The night ended with games between Deloitte vs Uncle Clems Packers and Seafire vs Tribe Tattoo Fifty Shades.

Uncle Clems Packers is currently leading the standings in the West division as they have gone undefeated. It was a high intensity game with Uncle Clems Packers winning by a comfortable score line of 39-6.

The game of the night was between Seafire and Tribe Tattoo Fifty Shades. Both teams went head to head throughout the nail biter game as each team played every well both on offense and defense. The game ended in Tribe Tattoo Fifty Shades’ favor in a very close score of 14-13.

The CIFFA players of the week are: Female – Jordyn Taylor (NCB), and Male – Nicholas Roberts (Popeye’s).

“Co-ed league is rapidly coming to an end and that means that the Premiere league will soon commence. If individuals want to join a Premiere league team or want to submit a team (female or male) please feel free to contact anyone on the CIFFA board or visit the website www.ciffa.ky,” an association spokesperson said.
